Album

In terms of immediate song recognition, Jacques Brel's sixth studio album is probably his most widely acclaimed. Opening with the somber Jef, a song which David Bowie had certainly appreciated when he composed Rock'n'Roll Suicide, the album is further dignified for rock audiences by the presence of Au Suivant Next, of Sensational Alex Harvey Band fame and two of Scott Walker's most successful vehicles, Mathilde and Tango Funebre. Jacques is the fifth studio album by the British singer-songwriter Marc Almond. It was released in December 1989. The album is a tribute to the Belgian singer-songwriter Jacques Brel and was instigated by Almond's collaboration with Paul Buck, who adapted Brel's original non-English lyrics specifically for Almond. The songs for the album were recorded at Milo Studios, London, over four years. Almond was accompanied both by his assembled band comprising La Magia and Willing Sinners members Annie. Release group information. Artist: Jacques Brel. Type: Album Compilation. Jacques Brel Format: Audio CD. This album covers some of the highlights of Brel's music. Songs like Les bergers, Une ile and Vesoul are more seldom heard, but imaginative and magical, like his best songs are. Also included there are several songs from his last album, like Vieillir, Jojo and Orly, which sounds remarkably like an entire play, where Brel is the narrator and the audience, feeling everything that goes on between an unknown couple in Orly - with the most beautiful music around him, sometimes like a whisper, sometimes like thunder.
