Made in U.S.A.This second pressing has a simplified sleeve, with the bottom folded up inside to hold the records in place. The track info & pictures are on the back cover. There is no serial number, but EP-1 is in the matrix-code as is APPLE. Also no writing on the spine, and the inside is blank. The labels are also blank and the records are white. The poster (folded) is included on this second pressing.

There is a first pressing of this title which contains a gatefold sleeve that resembled a mini version of the White Album. It has an individual serial number on the front cover, printed labels on the two white vinyl 45's, and a 13" x 8" two-sided poster that was folded and put into the package. Also, the cover's spine reads: The Beatles Apple EP-1.

In addition to the matrix number, the inner grooves of the second pressing also features a message, but this is not complete because the extra text in matrix Side C is missing (see matrix/runout).This in contrast to the first pressing.Extended play

Is it my memory, or did they seriously tone-down the jet sounds in Back in the USSR? I guess I’ll have to pull out my late seventies Japanese pressing and compare. Regardless, I love it! Really sounds great. I got none of the pressing defects others got, (return them, people!), and the mix is brilliant with vocal parts that were buried previously now clearly audible. Just overall a great sounding mix. Best I’ve ever heard this album sound, and I’ve heard it a lot over the years,
Not much to say other than a fantastic mix and a fantastic pressing of my favorite beatles album.
I only noticed the up n down waviness of side 2 bc somebody pointed it out! Before that I was just sitting and listening to an amazing press. So, um...don't look at the LP while playing?
Just wondering if this vinyl version was reproduced from a digital file or a new vinyl master? Anyone? cheers
My initial reaction is: who cares? It sounds amazing. But if you must know, there have been a number of articles written about this release and interviews with Giles Martin that may provide the answer. My hunch is there has to have been some digital sorcery going on in the chain somewhere.
Update. For the 2018 remixed version pressed by QRP, I received 4 copies from Amazon and all 4 had the same defects as I pointed out in my original review. I checked at a local record store and out of around 20 of so that they sold, most were returned. They are trying to get the German or French 2-LP versions and no longer are carrying the QRP-pressed U.S. version.
Sound quality on this press is top notch, hearing this on vinyl after hearing it digitally, while waiting for my record to come in, I can appreciate this remix even more so now. I'd recommend this to anyone even slightly into The Beatles or if they've heard them a billion times, this new mix makes The Beatles "White Album" sounds brand new all over again... Having said that my labels are a tad off center and there is some wobble to the record as it spins but it does not impact the sound. It's insignificant and doesn't bother me enough to complain about it.
Not being one to jump on any bandwagon. Queuing this I noticed the edge was not concentric but ignored it. watching it play it is so obvious the defects described here are right on. Tonearm on side 2 is riding a wave both up and down and side to side. The entire side. Did not look at side one at all but will next play. Not what I would expect on a precision pressing in this day and age. I will be contacting QRP. Damn shame.
I have had to return 2 copies to Acoustic Sounds with the same issue. I am going to probably end up with the older EMI reissue.
Yes of course side one is also dodgy Very very disappointed.
This remix is simp[ly brilliant across the board & zero quality issues here. Amazingly wide and clean soundstage. Incredibly low noise floor. Subtle room nuances in the recording studio are not lost. Every instrument and vocal channel in the mix exists clearly on its own but still manages to deliver a cohesive overall band sound. This kind of magic is incredibly hard to achieve especially when using old source material. Even if you're not a Beatles fan, this album is a must have even if only to act as reference material showing you (or others) what a truly great vinyl recording can sound like on your system.
It’s here! “The Cleanup Job” is finally upon us! Much of the top-heavy, blurred, buried, and messy colours of the 60’s, that once gave the “White Album” it’s character (and it’s charm some would say), are simply swept away here. This version is so analytically “cleansed”, it’s as if “Mommy Dearest” herself was hired on just to show Giles and friends how to scrub the album really clean! She wasn’t mad at Giles or the album mind you, she was mad at the dirt! Many of us “Beatlemaniacs” have acquired both a Mono and a Stereo copy of the original 68’ U.K. “White Album”. We have played both versions back to back, track for track, and picked and chose our favorite Mono and Stereo takes of each song. Some of us have been sure to point out all of the reasons why which mix of which song was better in countless online threads about the album. The rest of us were left dreaming and wishing for our own idea of the perfect semblance of the “White Album” (quite a few of us did this for five decades no less). This “2018 Remix” version is that dream come true in some respects, a hybrid of sorts of the two versions. It has a lot of the 68’ Mono’s punch (along with some of it’s depth), while retaining much of the 68’ Stereo’s wonderful panning techniques and overall balance—it’s as if Mono and Stereo got together and had a little baby....I must warn you though, this remix is incredibly off-putting at first, and that’s due mostly to it’s clarity*. This version doesn’t sound familiar like your old “top-heavy” 68’ Stereo copy of the “White Album”, but give it a few plays, it will sink in that this is the “2018 Remix”! Giles did an awesome job on last year’s “...Pepper..”, all of that cross referencing between the original 67’ Mono and Stereo versions of “...Pepper’s...” strongpoints, was just what “Dr. Robert” ordered to create a superior and essential Stereo “Remix” for 2017. A similar feat was more or less accomplished here, Giles not only opted for cleanliness (which I must admit, “The White Album” was arguably in dire need of), but it also appears that he did not shrug off the sonic pros and cons of both the original Mono and Stereo takes of the “White Album”. *Now, about this “Remix” being astonishing, yet off-putting. It is indeed mostly astonishing due to it’s clarity, however, at the same time it’s baffling (to me at least) why some details got mixed too low when compared to the original recording. Certain key nuances (shouts on “...Me And My Monkey”, count offs during “Birthday”, guitar riffs on “Helter Skelter”, backing vocals on “...Bungalow Bill”, etc.) on several of the songs, that were present on both the original Mono and Stereo versions, are just just barely audible, mixed low with an odd phantom-like quality. For this, I must tap Giles on the wrist. It was a “No No” (to quote Ringo) to tamper with the album in this way. The mishandling of those details, while listening to the “Remix”, has me distracted and somewhat longing for the original versions. With that said, to those of you that have been made uncomfortable upon a first listen, this “2018” version deserves a second listen, and many more there after....I get what Giles did here, he cleaned it all up—it’s a new sonic vision of your old favorite “White Album”. As a listener, it takes an open mind (and a fresh pair of ears for that matter) to adjust to such changes being made after 50 years of listening to the original. Giles took a real risk here, and for that he gets a “Number 9, Number 9, Number 9...”, out of 10 that is....
My copy was perfectly flat and full sounding. I can totally tell Giles did the same route as Sgt pepper, very bassy and guitars are upfront in the soundscape. I will admit some songs I had to adjust my martanz bass down and up since some tracks I thought had too much bass (happiness is a warm gun, the ending ..the bass was rumbling my windows) but it's overall a great remix, I have yet to play LP 2 side B but once I do I will let you know if that side is defect free.
This is for the U.S. 2018 STEREO 2LP version and was pressed by QRP(Quality Record Pressing). Typical of a QRP pressing, Side 1 is centered correctly, but, Side 2 is slightly off-center. LP 1 has a noticeable edge warp which can be heard. LP2 is fairly well flat. Side 3 is slightly off-center and Side 4 is noticeably more off-center. The plating of the master disc was done by QRP, so they also punched the center hole and had to align the 2 stampers for each LP in the presses. Sound quality is not great due to excess surface noise. These definitely are not high quality pressings. To get the German-pressed versions, you have to buy the 4 LP boxed set.
"All Acoustic Sounds is going to do..."? NO. Acoustic Sounds' response was to deny there was a problem. They claimed I was the only one. Again, NO. Many others had the same problem and even locally, Rasputin Records had almost every copy returned which they sold.QRP indeed presses some pretty good LP's and are superior to others. They did a good job with the "Sgt. Pepper's..." remix LP, which is probably why UMe chose them again to do the "White Album", but the E.U. pressing is superior in the boxed set.The problem with QRP is that they only have one experienced guy in-house and they have modified and repaired old worn-out record presses. Unlike GZ, when they set up their new Canadian record pressing plant, PRC, they installed new, state of the art record presses. My first love has always been records. When I bought records over the decades, I would take them back for exchange if there was anything wrong with them. Defects were common back then. Back in the late-90's, when 'audiophile' records became more common, pressing quality was really good, with few defects. U.S. pressing companies like RTI were the best. Because of increased demand for vinyl records, quality has suffered, mainly because of newer star-ups, like QRP, having lack of experience and worn-out equipment, while the other older record pressing companies are working around the clock just to keep up.Yes, I am a fan of CD's, with 1,000's in my collection. I could appreciate the absence of pops and clicks, plus the higher frequency bias made them appealing to me. The convenience of playing them is also a plus.I plan on continuing to buy both records and CD's.

All Acoustic Sounds is going to do is tell you to contact the place you purchased it from. In any event, most of the best pressed records in my collection come from QRP, including some from Capitol, like the Beastie Boys reissues. They're flawless. To each their own I guess. Looking at your other reviews, it doesn't seem like you have a whole lot of good to say about any records. Perhaps you should stick to CDs.
Of course you should contact Capitol Records, that is a given, they are the ones who chose to use QRP to press their records and you wouldn't want them to make the same mistake again. You should let people know how to contact them. The reason that you must contact Acoustic Sounds is they ARE not only the retail side of the company but they also are the Customer Service department. So, why not just contact QRP? Their contact department is only for ordering.
DanShay please contact Acoustic Sounds/Analogue Productions and let them know. This is the wrong information. You should only contact Acoustic Sounds if you purchased it from Acoustic Sounds. It comes from Capitol Records, Analogue Productions has nothing to do with it.

You should contact Amazon. By now, I'm sure they are aware of the problem. Being in Poland, did you order it from Amazon in the U.S.? From what I understand, for the E.U., the album was also pressed by Optimal of Germany and MPO in France. The 4-LP boxed set was only pressed by Optimal Media. If you have the U.S. version, it should indicate Capitol Records and made in the U.S. If you do have the U.S. version, please contact Acoustic Sounds/Analogue Productions and let them know.
Well I have same issue. It is warped (and does seem off-centered. Ordered through amazon.com. It doesny much affect sound in my case though. Not sure if I want to return it, I'm located in Poland, shipping takes a lot of time..
Cleaned both records. Applied some Groove Glide. Played both a few times. I couldn't stand it. So noisy I had to send back to Amazon. No fill starting out side 4 during Revolution1, which first play I thought was dirt! So much noise, pops no fill. What i could hear of the Remix didn't grab me, but I would have kept it to see if the new mix would grow on me, but QRP did a bad job on my copy.
Mine is the opposite - LP1 is totally flat, and LP2 has a very slight edge warp. They are a all a tad off center, but I've seen far worse and had to watch it for a bit to know for sure. The sound is great though - very clean and no noise.
Same with mine. Flat..center and full. Its truly a 50/50 chance with any vinyl these days getting a good copy or a bad egg.
Just needle-dropped my 2LP. Flat, silent, centered. Sorry you didn't get a good one, but they exist.
My copy is about the same. Spun both records once. Slight warps. The main complaint is vinyl noise. I did not wash them yet, however, but I will and then play them again. Still won't get rid of the other digital 'zits' sounds though (not pops, not exactly no-fill and not quite ticks made by scratches or dust). The mix itself has some songs that have obvious differences and some that don't seem like they have any (Giles may call them subtle). Miles Showell did the half speed mastering.
Mine has the same edge warp on disc 1...doesn’t affect sound but not something I wanna see after dropping $45

One more, reissue, remastered, anniversary....Asking 30€ for this... Until when vampires will suck Beattles legacy?
This is. remix, mate.. not a remaster.. It's a huge deal and it's fantastic!
All I can say is where did you get it for 30€?
I have a copy like this, but the label's a little different. It only has 'Birthday' printed once and some other layout differences. I don't have the original sleeve.
Does anyone know if this edition comes with 4 portraits and posters? Not noted anywhere!
Yeah, my copy has the 4 portraits as well as the poster.
