The U-Men was an American proto-grunge band, formed in Seattle, Washington in 1981 and active until 1989. They toured extensively across the United States and even had a song by the Butthole Surfers named in their honor. Their musically dirty sound was a forerunner for the later grunge bands to come out of Seattle. U-Men album. Track listing. Play artist. 2 November 2017. Play album. Popular this week. 21 listeners. Although it is marketed and labeled as the band entire studio recorded discography this is untrue. A voice sampling at the beginning and end of the band's only LP "Step On a Bug" is missing and "Blue Xmas" from the ultra rare compilation "Christmas '84" is missing entirely. A live version of "Shoot 'Em Down" from the compilation "Woodshock 85" is also absent.
Luckily for you they released a "Blue Christmas" single (don't know if it's the original recording) last December, backing Green River's "Away In a Manger."
I've never heard the 1988 vinyl or cassette versions of Step On A Bug, only the 1990 CD. It's got the voice sampling at the beginning of the first track, which I am led to assume is how the 1988 versions are. However, I'm confused about where the second sample is. On the CD, it's at the end of the last (bonus) track, "Dig It A Hole." But the last track on the original version is "Pay The Bubba." Is the second sample at the end of this track on the LP version? If so, it seems weird that there would be editing/sequencing changes of the samples for the Tupelo and Sub Pop CDs.Are you saying that Sub Pop simply removed the vocal samples from the beginning of "Whistlin' Pete" and the end of "Pay The Bubba?"
